Description

Nos. 12 and 13 St Catherine Hill are an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings. No. 13 has a rendered elevation, grooved to resemble ashlar. Each property has two windows, with No. 12 featuring paired windows and casement windows on the second floor, alongside glazing bars on the first floor. No. 13 has raised surrounds to its 19th-century sash windows. Both buildings have 20th-century shop fronts and pantile roofs. No. 12 retains an early 18th-century-style chimney to its left.

The interior of No. 13 is notable for its exceptionally thick walls, which are believed to suggest late medieval construction. Several carved corbels were discovered within the property, supporting this theory. It is considered probable that No. 13, along with No. 14, occupies the site of the former St Catherine’s Chapel.
