Description

No. 14 Catherine Hill is thought to be on the site of the mediaeval Chantry Chapel of St Catherine and was remodelled around 1830. It is a three-storey building. A wide, elliptical-headed archway is located on the left-hand side, with a room situated above it. Stone steps lead down from the archway for access to Sheppards Barton. There are three windows on the first floor, with the left-hand window positioned above the archway. These windows are sash windows with glazing bars, plain architraves, and bracketed cornices. A late 19th-century shop front projects from the ground floor on the right-hand side. A section of the wall adjacent to the steps reveals traces of two arched openings, one of which may have been for a large, perpendicular-style window.
