Description
Catherine Hill House is an 18th-century building located on the south side of Catherine Street. Constructed of coursed rubble with a parapet, it features a moulded cornice and rusticated quoins, with architraves to the windows. The roof is a Mansard style covered in pantiles. The house is arranged over two and a half storeys, with a central dormer. It has five windows, which are sashes with glazing bars. A Doric pedimented doorpiece, featuring engaged columns and a triglyph frieze, provides the entrance. The door itself is six-panelled, with trefoil heads to the upper panels and a cross pattern to the lower ones. An angled two-storey bay extends to the south, topped with a moulded gabled dormer. A distinctive lead rainwaterhead, bearing a compass pattern, is located on the side of a mid-19th century extension. Interior shutters are also present. The interior includes a hall with a screen featuring two doors and a segmental glazed fanlight with ogee tracery. The right-hand ground floor room contains a mid-18th century fireplace and flanking display niche cupboards. A marble fireplace is found in the first floor left-hand room.
