Description
Nos. 8 and 10 Bridge Street are two houses that may have originally been built as one structure. They have a core dating back to the 14th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and earlier. The buildings are two storeys high, constructed from timber framing and roughcast, topped with a pantiled roof that features a central 19th-century chimney made of red brick.
No. 10 has a 19th-century small-pane sash window on the ground floor and a pair of small-pane casements on the first floor. In contrast, No. 8 has a variety of 19th and 20th-century casement windows, along with a 19th-century panelled door that includes a glazed panel. Notably, No. 8 has a coupled rafter roof with long splayed and undersquinted scarf joints, dating back to around 1400 or earlier. This building is an unusually narrow example of a medieval two-storey structure, and its original purpose remains uncertain.
