Description

25 and 27 King William Street are two houses that were built as one in the early 16th century or possibly the 15th century, with significant alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a timber frame with plaster (No. 27 is roughcast). They have a concrete plaintiled roof and a large 17th-century chimney made of red brick at the rear. The houses contain various 19th and 20th-century sash and casement windows. No. 27 has an early 19th-century modillioned cornice above a 20th-century glazed panelled entrance door. No. 25 displays a continuous double-ogee moulding on two posts and a binding joist. In the roofspace, some widely-spaced arch-braced studwork is visible, indicating the presence of a crownpost roof. The walls were raised and a new roof was constructed in the 18th or 19th century.
