Description
Nos 21 and 23 High Street are a pair of shops from the 19th century, constructed mainly of local stone rubble and rendered on the south front. The buildings feature a flat roof and brick chimney stacks. They rise three storeys and consist of three bays. The early 20th-century shopfronts below have central recessed doorways; No 21 has a deep fascia while No 23 has a shallower one. Both upper floors have 12-pane sash windows in plain surrounds, separated by a string course, and are topped by bracketed wide eaves overhangs. The east elevation includes semi-circular headed windows on the first floor, a low shop window, and simple pilasters with a hood over a recessed part-glazed door. The interior has not been seen. The flat roof may be part of a series installed in the early 20th century in Wincanton, similar to that at No 5 Market Place.
