Description

The former Post Office is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with well-burnt headers and features ashlar stone dressings. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles and has simple gables, along with brick end chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high with attics and consists of three wide bays.

At the base, there is a stone rubble plinth and rusticated quoins, topped with an eaves cornice. The windows are 12-pane sash types set in architraved surrounds, with the upper bays one and three featuring these windows, and bay three on the lower level having a doubled version. Upper bay two has a small matching semi-circular head window with an architrave and keystone.

On the lower level, bay one has a pair of 19th-century glazed doors flanked by slim sidelights, all within an architrave. Bay two features a wide four flush panel door set in a semi-circular sub-arch with an impost, and the architrave has a triple keystone over a radial glazed fanlight. This is flanked by reeded Corinthian pilasters with an entablature above and a full pediment, which is notably high in proportion. The interior has not been seen. This building previously served as the Post Office.
