Description

Pine House, located to the rear of No 26 High Street, is an early 19th-century house built in a Regency style with an 'L'-shaped plan. The house is rendered on an ashlar plinth and features a hipped clay tile roof along with brick chimney stacks. It has three storeys and a two-bay south elevation, with modified sash windows in the original plain openings on the ground and first floors, the ground floor windows being full length, while the second floor has 16-pane sash windows.

The west elevation consists of three bays, with the third bay projecting. It includes 16-pane sash windows on the second floor, and on the first floor of bay two, with bay one having a ground floor window. The remainder of the windows have been modified by the removal of glazing bars. Bay two features a six-panel door framed by fluted Ionic pilasters and an entablature, topped with a Regency-style fanlight.

There is a lower extension to the north with three bays, which also has 16-pane sash windows and a pair of Gothick glazed doors set within a four-centre archway. The interior of Pine House remains largely unaltered, retaining original panelling, window shutters, doorways, and fireplaces. Notably, this house served as the local hospital for a few years before 1932.
