WINCANTON CP HIGH STREET (south side) Pine House, to rear of No 26 High Street (not listed)

House. Early C19. Rendered on ashlar plinth; hipped clay tile roof; brick chimney stacks. Regency style, 'L'-plan. 3 storeys, 2-bay South elevation. Modified sash windows in original plain openings to ground and first floor, the former full length; 16 pane sashes to second floor. West elevation of 3 bays of which bay 3 projects; 16-pane sash windows to second floor and bay 2 first, bay 1 ground; remainder modified by removal of glazing bars: 6-panel door to bay 2 with fluted Ionic pilasters and entablature as surround, set under Regency style fanlight. Extension northwards, lower, 3 bays, with 16-pane sash windows, also a pair of Gothick glazed doors in 4-centre archway. Interior little altered, with original panelling, window shutters, doorways, fireplaces etc. For a few years prior to 1932 this house served as the local hospital.
