Description
No 53 and 55 High Street are a pair of houses built in the 19th century. No 53 is constructed from local stone ashlar, while No 55 is made of cut and squared local stone with ashlar dressings. Both houses have a continuous Welsh slate roof with abutment and plain gables, along with brick chimney stacks. They are two storeys tall and consist of five bays, with No 53 occupying the first two bays. The buildings are plinthed, and No 55 features toothed quoins. The entrance to No 53 is in a panelled flat-headed recess and includes a rectangular fanlight above. There is a 12-pane sash window in a plain opening above the door, and a two-storey bay window in bay 2 with 4+12+4 pane sashes, although the glazing bars have been removed from the lower window, which is covered by a lead flat roof. No 55 has toothed and keystoned surrounds to all openings, with 12-pane sash windows above and plain windows in the outer bays below. The central entrance has a part-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight. The interior has not been seen.
