Description

Uncle Tom's Cabin Public House is an inn that was originally a house, dating from at least the 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble, which is colourwashed on the south elevation, and features a thatched roof that is half hipped on the east side, along with a brick chimney stack. The building has an 'L' plan and stands two storeys high with a two-bay front.

On the upper floor, there are early pattern three-light wood framed windows with leaded panes. The ground floor features a nine-pane sash window in the first bay, which is set under a timber lintel, followed by a 20th-century boarded door in a plain opening. In the second bay, there is an early 19th-century composite opening that includes two nine-pane casements, a stable-type door, and a two-light small pane casement that is much distorted, all situated under a continuous hood, which may indicate it was once a shop.

On the east side, facing Flingers Lane, there are two later sash windows with a door between them on the ground floor, while above, there are three early leaded casements, one of which is now blocked. The interior has only been partially observed, but it includes a chamfered main crossbeam without stops, a small enclosed winding stair in the northwest corner, and bar fittings and layout that may date back to 1861 when the building first became an inn. There are also bench seats around the walls.
