Description
No 12 High Street is a shop and house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble, rendered on the front elevation with ashlar dressings, all painted. The building features a plain clay tiled double Mansard roof behind a parapet. It has two storeys with an attic and consists of three bays. The structure includes a plinth, rusticated quoins, a cornice, and a plain parapet with moulded coping.
The shopfront, which is a good example from the early 20th century, has wide splayed central glazed doors that are accessed by two steps, flanked by panelled pilasters. It also features a moulded fascia with an elaborate dentilled cornice and two ornate console brackets at each end. Above the shopfront, there are sash windows set in architraves, with 16-pane windows in the outer bays and a 12-pane window in the centre. Additionally, there are two 12-pane dormer sash windows located behind the parapet. The return to Angle Lane has a plainer shop window and door. The interior has not been seen.
