Description
Nos 21 and 23 on Bread Street are a handsome pair of buildings dating from 1769, as indicated by the rainwater head that features a decorative mask and garlands. They have a three-storey, five-bay front made of painted small bricks, with raised stone quoins. The buildings feature a stone coved and moulded eaves cornice, as well as architraves and cills for the sash windows, although two of these windows have been altered. The roof is high-pitched and swept, covered with stone flags. The ground floor has been modernized with shops. The rear elevation corresponds to No 32 Westgate, which was refenestrated in the early 19th century. This part of the building is also three storeys with two windows, finished in stucco and featuring raised quoins and surrounds for the sash windows, some of which include margin lights. It also has a fairly high-pitched stone flagged roof and a modern shop front.
