Description
No. 23 Cross Square is a building located at the west end of the street, facing Marygate. It consists of two parts. The northern section dates from the late 18th century and is four storeys high with four bays, two of which are canted back on the left. It is constructed of red brick and features a stone moulded and modillioned eaves cornice. The roof is fairly low pitched and hipped, covered with stone flags. The building has finely gauged brick arches with fluted triple keystones and stone cills beneath later sash windows. The southern section is an early 19th-century addition that is five storeys tall and has one window. This part is made of lighter and larger red brick and has a similar stone eaves cornice. Its roof is lower pitched and hipped, covered with Welsh slate. This section also features gauged brick arches and stone cills to the 19th-century sash windows.
