Description
1 and 3 Marygate is an early 19th-century building that stands three stories tall and features three windows. It is constructed of red brick and has a low-pitched, hipped roof covered with stone flags. The building has segmental arches and stone cills on the sash windows with glazing bars on the second floor, while the windows below have been replaced with modern casements. The central window on each floor has been blocked. The modern shop front extends across both No 1 and No 3. No 3 is originally a 18th-century building that served as a rear wing of No 38 Westgate, but it has been altered. This section is two stories high with two windows, featuring early 20th-century fixed lights set under narrow stone lintels that are not in their original positions. It is made of narrow, dark red bricks and has a high-pitched swept roof that is now slated. The building is included partly for its group value.
