Description

Nos 14 and 15, Stony Street are a pair of buildings dating from the mid-18th century, with later additions and alterations. No. 14 was originally two storeys, and was raised to three storeys around 1811, matching the style of Nos 9 and 11 nearby. No. 15 is a three-storey, two-window extension of a later date. The buildings are constructed of rubble and feature a moulded cornice. They have sash windows with glazing bars; No. 14 has a single window on the second floor and two on the first floor, with raised surrounds to the first-floor windows. A central doorway, dating from the early 19th century, is embellished with panelled pilasters and brackets supporting a hood, with a decorative vent grid above the door. No. 14 has a modern shop front, while No. 15 has an early 20th-century shop front with a recessed entrance and curved braces to the corners. Two projecting wrought iron sign holders and a lamp overthrow, connecting to No. 3, are also present above the doorway. The rear of No. 14 appears to have a mullion window on the ground floor dating from around 1700.
