Description
No. 27 High Street is a shop with a house and offices above, built in the early 19th century. The building features ashlar stonework and has a roof that is hidden by a parapet on three sides.
It stands four storeys high and has three bays. There are panelled pilasters at each end, a band course between the first and second floors, a deep moulded cornice, and a plain parapet. The ground floor has a later 20th-century shop front with central plain doors set in a deep recess. To the right, also in a recess, is a doorway that provides access to the upper floors of Nos 27 and 29.
The upper floors have sash windows in plain openings, with tall 15-pane units on the first floor and 12-pane units on the second and third floors. The interior of the ground floor has been cleared to create a shop, while the rooms above maintain a general Regency character, featuring ceiling cornices, doors, and doorcases at the first-floor level. The upper floors have not been seen.
