Description
No. 10 Westgate Street is a shop and dwelling that has been converted into offices above the ground floor shop. It is linked with Nos 6 and 8 Westgate Street as part of a cohesive block of office suites. The building dates from the late 18th century but may include elements from an earlier structure. It is constructed of brick, with the front painted white, and features a hipped slate roof and a brick chimney stack.
The building is four storeys tall and includes a cellar. The front has a mid-20th century shop front with a doorway on the left. Each of the upper floors has two sash windows that decrease in height, all featuring slender glazing bars (three panes by four panes on the first and second floors, and three panes by three panes on the third floor). These windows are set in openings with flat arches that have keystones and projecting stone sills, topped by a plain parapet with stone capping.
Inside, there is an early 19th century open-well staircase with stick balusters, and 19th century roof trusses.
