Description
No. 7 Westgate Street is a shop and dwelling that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid and late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with a rendered upper section above the shop front, which was added around 1950. It features stone details and a slate mansard roof. Originally, it had a double-depth block plan with later extensions added to the rear, and many internal walls have been removed.
The exterior consists of three storeys, a cellar, and an attic. The shop front and fascia were updated in the 20th century. The upper floors are divided into two bays, topped with a shallow crowning modillion cornice and a blocking course. The sash windows on the upper floors are of similar size and feature glazing bars arranged in a 3x4 pane configuration, set within flat arched openings that are adorned with five raised and stepped voussoirs and a projecting stone sill. The roof dormer has a segmental arched sash window with glazing bars arranged in a 3x2 pane configuration. The interior has been refitted with 20th-century linings, and the cellar is not accessible.
