Description
No. 24 Westgate Street is a shop and dwelling, now used as an office, dating from the early to mid 18th century with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a plain tile, end-gabled roof with a gable-end stack to the right. It features a double-depth front block with a pedestrian entrance to Maverdine Passage on the left and a rear wing on the east side of the passage.
The exterior has three storeys, a cellar, and an attic. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front, while the upper floors are made of red brick with raised and chamfered stone quoins at the outer corners. A later brick band under the eaves has replaced the former crowning cornice. On each of the upper floors, there are two late 19th-century plain horned sash windows in original openings, featuring rubbed brick flat arches with raised and projecting key stones and projecting moulded stone sills. There was formerly a central roof dormer. The interior has not been inspected but may contain original features on the upper floors.
