Description
No. 13 High Street is a house with a shop, now functioning as a shop with offices above. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of brick with ashlar stonework dressings, all painted, and features a Welsh slate-covered Mansard roof behind a parapet.
The building has three storeys with an attic and a single wide bay. It displays plain pilasters, a cornice, and a tall plain parapet. The ground floor has been modified in the 20th century, featuring a two-light display window for the supermarket, and to the right, there is a plain doorway with a six-panel door. A projecting fascia with a moulded top runs across the entire facade, topped with small wrought-iron railings. The first and second floors have a shallow angled bay window, which includes three four-pane sashes on the first floor and 16-pane sashes on the second floor, extending up to the top of the parapet. A dormer window with a slightly segmental roof is located behind the parapet.
Inside, the ground floor has been completely modified, but there is a good ceiling cornice in the front first-floor room, and the staircase leading from the first to the second floor features turned balusters. The front second-floor room retains a Regency dado and doorcase, although it has a modern door. There is little of interest on the attic floor.
