Knapp Cottage, with Wall and Railings Attached to South-East Corner

Knapp Cottage, with a wall and railings attached to the south-east corner, is a cottage with a workshop, formerly a shop, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of local stone rubble with ashlar dressing and has a Welsh slate roof featuring a plain gable on the west side and a half-hipped roof on the east. The building is two storeys high with an undercroft and has a three-bay south elevation. The east gable has rusticated quoins, and there are 16-pane sash windows in the upper bays one and two, and in the lower bay three, which is blank. The lower bay one features an angled bay window with eight panes on each side and a hipped slate roof. The former window in lower bay two is now blocked. Between bays two and three, there is a six-panel door with a glazed toplight in a heavy frame, topped with a double curved timber porch roof supported by brackets. The east gable includes a garage door leading to the undercroft, a large 24-pane casement window, and a 16-pane sash window above. A lean-to on the north side has additional sash windows in the east gable. The interior has not been seen. The boundary to the south of the cottage is marked by a low rubble stone wall with plain copings, topped by cast iron fleurs-de-lys pointed railings. There are rectangular gate piers with block and pyramidal tops, two pairs of matching cast iron gates with anthemion ornament on the middle rails, all contributing to the setting and street scene.
