Description

This is an early 19th-century cottage situated at the end of a row, located in Martock. The exterior is constructed of ham stone squared rubble with ashlar dressings, and features a Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch and stepped coped gables. Brick chimney stacks are present. The cottage has two storeys and three bays. It has sash windows with 16 panes in plain openings. A 6-panel flush door is recessed within a beaded ashlar surround, framed by a timber lattice porch with a sheet metal segmental roof. A lean-to garage is attached to the north gable, and a store or workshop with a triple-roll clay tile roof, boarded door, and metal window is located on the south side. The interior has not been inspected. Approximately 2 metres west of the house, a low stone wall is capped with cast iron railings featuring alternating arrowheads and hoops, enclosing decorative lollipops, with cast barbed arrowheads on arched-braced standards and a return on the north end. A 20th-century gate is positioned opposite the front door. These railings contribute to the building's setting and the surrounding street scene.
