Description
The United Reformed Church Schoolroom, built between 1866 and 1868, serves as a schoolroom for the Independent Chapel. It is constructed from Ham stone with random coursed boasted stones and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring an ornamental clay tile ridge between coped gables. The gables are adorned with obelisk kneeler stones and cross finials. The building has a double roof plan with ridges positioned at right angles to the road and consists of a single storey with four bays plus one additional bay.
The north elevation features plain lancet windows and plain pointed arched doorways situated between each pair of bays. The main west gable has a double lancet window topped with a trefoil gablement. On the south side, there is a second gable set back, which includes double lancets above and a pointed arched doorway below. The interior has not been seen.
Approximately 2 meters west of the schoolroom, there is a low stone wall with cast iron railings that have fleurs-de-lys finials. The railings are arch-braced and return to the south-west corner, accompanied by one matching metal gate and one timber gate leading into the forecourt. These features contribute to the overall setting of the church complex.
