Description
The building is a former manse to the United Reformed Church, dating from the early 19th century. It is a detached house constructed with ham stone ashlar at the front and coursed rubble on the sides and rear. The roof is made of plain clay tiles, which undulate between stepped coped gables, and there are brick chimney stacks at the ends and in the middle.
The house has two storeys and three bays. It features plain mullioned windows with three lights, which have horizontal-bar casements. In the lower bay one, there is a later 19th-century angled bay window with plain sashes and a stepped hipped roof. In the lower bay two, there is a six-panel door set in an architrave, accessed by four steps, and topped with a moulded stone flat hood supported by shaped stone brackets. At the rear, there is a lean-to extension and a 15-pane sash window in the stairwell.
About 2 metres west of the house, there is a low stone wall with railings that have cast fleurs-de-lys tops. The railings are arched-braced and have returns to each front corner of the house, but there is no gate. These features contribute to the setting of the house and enhance the streetscape.
