Description
Sorbie House, built in 1778, likely on the site of an earlier manse, is a 3-bay, 2-storey house with a single bay added to the west and a raised roofline from 1813. The exterior is made of painted rubble with painted raised margins. The original part features a central door, now with a modern timber and glass porch. It has single light windows with various types of glazing, including six uPVC sash and case windows with plate glass glazing, and two modern timber fixed-pane windows. The rear predominantly features uPVC sash and case windows.
To the west, there is a 19th-century, 2-storey addition with a single bay and sash and case windows with 2-pane plate glass glazing. To the east, there is a single-storey 19th-century wing also made of painted rubble. The roofline of the 18th-century section was raised to match the 1813 level. The house has sandstone end skews and both end and axial coped stacks, with thackstones and octagonal cans; the stack on the right gable has been removed, while the center stack is made of painted brick. The rear elevation features good graded slates with two rooflights, while the front has been reroofed in uniform blue slates. The rear elevation also includes a lower 2-storey wing and a flat-roofed single-storey porch.
