Description
Stewarton Cottages, built in the earlier 19th century, are a pair of single-storey picturesque improved cottages. They are constructed of painted rubble with rendered margins and feature a symmetrical layout, with each cottage having three bays. The outer bays contain simple doorways, while the central bays are advanced and gabled, showcasing square projecting bay windows with sloping slate roofs. The inner bays have single light windows. All windows are single light casements with 12-pane glazing.
At the rear, there are single-storey projecting piended bays with modern flat-roofed extensions. The projecting gables have saw-toothed stepped skews, while the other skews are straight. The cottages feature tall coped stacks with tall paired diamond flues and some octagonal cans. The roofs are covered with good graded slate, and there are sandstone ridges and cast-iron gutters. The traditional panelled front doors include a 4-pane light, with the door for No 1 relocated to the rear.
