Description

Gogs Pool House is a semi-detached cottage located in Hurst, primarily dating from the 17th century, with possible medieval origins. The building is constructed of ham stone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof with coped gables, as well as stone slates on the bay window. It has two storeys and an attic, with two bays. The windows are hollow-chamfer mullioned and set in recesses; the first bay has a four-light window below and a three-light window above, both with labels. The second bay features an angled bay window with one light, four lights, and one light on both levels, along with a two-light attic window in the gable, which is adorned with shaped kneeler stones and a ball finial. There is a continuous string course at the ground floor of this bay and a plain doorway to the right with a boarded door set in a recess. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain scroll-stop chamfered beams, a small cambered arched fireplace, and some boxed-in timbers that may represent a variety of cruck truss. Approximately three metres east of the house, there are wrought iron railings on a low stone wall, featuring necked points and cast urn finials on arch-braced standards, which contribute to the setting of the house and the overall streetscape.
