Description
Vintners, located at No. 15 in Hurst, is a detached house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of ham stone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof with stepped coped gables and stone slab chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and four bays, with hollow chamfer mullioned windows that are four-light, except for the upper bay three, which is three-light. The lower bay three has a cambered-arched doorway under a deep lintel and label, featuring a part-glazed 18th-century door. There is an early 20th-century glazed and slated porch attached to the north gable. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain a 17th-century fireplace and possibly the remains of a bacon curing chamber. The main roof was retimbered after a fire.
Approximately 3 meters east of the house, there is a low stone wall topped with wrought iron railings that have necked arrowheads and cast urn finials on arch-braced standards, along with a matching gate opposite the door. The returns of the wall are in low stone with angled copings, all of which contribute to the setting of the house and the overall streetscape.
