Description

Tellis Farmhouse is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, although it has been mostly altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from local stone rubble and features lime rendering, topped with a thatched roof that is hipped to the east and coped to the west. It has both end and intermediate brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse is a single storey with an attic and consists of six bays.

Bays four, five, and six contain old casement windows with rectangular leaded panes, arranged in two and three lights. The first bay has a four-light window with an exposed timber lintel above it, while the windows in bays one to four are set into the thatch. There is an external doorway to bay three, which is sheltered by a timber porch, and another stable door located between bays five and six.

The interior is said to have a three-room cross passage plan, with a fireplace in the central room featuring a depressed four-centre arch adorned with ogee step hollow moulding. The ceiling in this room is framed in six panels. One of the roof trusses is a jointed cruck, with parts of two windbraces visible.

The boundary walls surrounding the front garden are also significant, standing at 1.25 metres high and made of rubble stone, starting from the corners of the house and returning to form the southern boundary.
