Description

St Lo Farmhouse is a house located in Okeford Fitzpaine, dating from the early 16th century, with later additions and alterations from the late 16th century, 1638, and the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of rubble, banded rubble, and flint, featuring a timber frame with brick nogging and rubble dressings. It has a thatched roof with gable and half-hipped ends, and brick stacks positioned at the end of the range and to the left of the cross passage. The left cross-wing is half-hipped, and there is a later outshut in the center. The farmhouse has two storeys and a single storey with an attic, displaying irregular fenestration. The windows are casements with 3, 4, and 5 lights, featuring leaded lights. The upper floor left window retains the remains of a hood mould, and there is a 20th-century wooden door.

Inside, there is a beaded plank door hung on strap hinges within a doorway that has moulded timber jambs and a lintel. Several doorways feature chamfered surrounds with ornamental stops, shouldered abutments, and heads with raised centers. The interior includes a number of plank and muntin partitions. A 16th-century fireplace on the ground floor has a carved surround with moulded timber jambs and cusped tracery panelling on the bressummer. The first-floor chimney piece displays 17th-century moulded plasterwork. The original range of the farmhouse features jointed cruck trusses and may have originally functioned as an open hall house.
