Description

A terrace of 12 almshouses in East Coker, founded in 1640 and largely rebuilt during the early 19th century. The houses are constructed with local stone and ham stone dressings, featuring fish-scale clay tiles and stone ridges between coped gables. Stone and reconstructed stone chimney stacks are also present. The houses are arranged in groups of two, each having a single storey with an attic and one bay. They have hollow chamfered mullioned windows with steel opening casements, leaded with diamond panes; the windows have three lights on the lower level and two lights above, with a continuous label over the lower lights and individual gables above the upper lights. Cambered arch, chamfered doorways are set in pairs between the windows, with stone steps leading up to the northernmost cottages. An old stone sett footpath runs along the front of the terrace. The interiors have not been inspected.
