Privy About 35 Metres South Of The Manor House

This is a six-seater privy located about 35 meters south of the Manor House, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone with ashlar dressings, topped by a pyramidal stone slate roof featuring a ball finial. The privy is a single-storey structure with a square plan, and the north elevation has three bays. It includes a central doorway with a simple beaded architrave and a four-fielded panel door, flanked by two small single-light windows that also have beaded architraves and rectangular leaded panes. The other sides of the building are plain.

Inside, there is a low plastered ceiling with exposed laths in vent panels and an elm boarded floor. Bench seats surround three sides, with two toilet holes for adults at the rear and holes for one adult and one child on the sides. The adults' holes have hinged lids, while the children's holes have wooden stoppers. Above the seats, there are fragments of 17th and 18th-century panelling, some of which are fielded, likely not part of the original structure. Below the floor, there is a drop into a now dry stream about 2.5 meters deep. The privy was in regular use until 1939.
