Description

Barn at Church Farm is an 18th-century barn, with extensions dating to around the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with a double Roman tile roof and stone-coped parapeted gable ends. The barn originally comprised three bays, featuring cart entrances on either side of a central threshing bay, with a porch on the southeast side. There are 19th-century outshuts on the southeast side and at each end. The northwest front has a central cart entrance with full-height plank double doors, accompanied by long ventilation slits on either side. The rear, southeast side, has a porch with a lean-to roof and plank double doors, with outshuts on the left and right which obscure the original ventilation slits. A lower hipped-roof extension is located on the northeast end, and there is an outshut on the southwest end. Inside, the barn has a tie-beam roof structure with halved and lapped collars, two tiers of tenoned purlins, common rafters, and a ridge-board. The ventilation slits are splayed internally and have ashlar dressings.
