Description

Nos 4, 6, and 8 Berrow Road are three houses that form part of a terrace built between 1838 and 1841, with some 20th-century alterations. The houses are finished in stucco with tile roofs, while the side and rear elevations are made of brick, featuring brick stacks. They are three storeys high with a basement and have a symmetrical arrangement of one bay each. Each house has plain pilasters on either side and between the bays, a plain band at the first floor level, and a cornice band. The second floor features tripartite sash windows with decorative glazing bars in a gothick style, while the first floor has 16-pane sash windows.

Number 4 has two openings with two-centred heads on the ground floor; to the left are French windows with glazing bars and a transom light, and to the right is a door opening with a gothick panelled door and a transom light. Numbers 6 and 8 have a similar ground floor configuration, but their door openings have plain square heads. They also feature French windows with glazing bars, panelled doors, and panelled sidelights. Each house has plain lean-to verandahs, likely added in the 20th century.

Inside, each house contains a staircase that dates from the same period, with turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The halls have dado panelling, and some fireplaces have stone surrounds with bulls-eye decoration. The doors and plasterwork throughout are in a gothick style, particularly on the ground floor. Number 2 Berrow Road, although part of the terrace, has been altered and is therefore no longer of special interest.
