Description

Two houses, numbers 14 and 15, were built in 1865 as part of a terrace. They are constructed of red brick with painted stone or stucco dressings, and have slate roofs. Each house has two bays and three storeys plus attics and basements. A two-storey canted bay window projects from the left side of each house, above a basement. These bay windows have sash windows without glazing bars, and shallow dentilled cornices above the ground and first floors. Basement windows are glazing bar sashes with painted lintels. Other first-floor windows lack glazing bars, with rubbed brick flat arches. The first floor windows of number 14 have external blind boxes. The second-floor windows have sashes with rubbed brick flat arches. Both houses have two gabled dormers. Doorways are located in the right-hand bays, each with a doorcase featuring pilasters with sunken panels, tall brackets, a frieze block, a dentilled cornice, and panelled reveals. The doors are five-panelled, with raised mouldings: the upper two panels octagonal, the middle two rounded rectangles, and the lower one with re-entrant corners, topped with a segmental overlight. A modillion gutter cornice runs along the top. Brick chimneys are located to each house's left and right. The interior has not been inspected. Attached iron railings have pointed finials and are set on low brick walls with stone copings. Iron gateposts incorporate ball finials. Numbers 1 to 22 Bootham Terrace represent a largely complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870 and exhibiting a variety of different designs.
