Description
Number 22 is a house, now divided into flats, built around 1875. It features mottled brick and white brick with some painted stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building is three storeys high. On the left side, there is a two-storey canted bay window made of white brick, which has sashed lights and a flat roof. To the right, on the first floor, there are a pair of narrow sashed windows without glazing bars. The second floor has three 20th-century pivoting casement windows. The doorway, located on the right, is framed by white brick with stone caps and bases, along with a plain stone frieze and cornice. The door itself has four panels and an overlight with a segmental top. Short lengths of barleysugar cast-iron railing are positioned on either side of the external steps. The eaves feature projecting courses of white brick, and a brick pilaster strip on the left is capped by a stone kneeler with a ball finial. There is a chimney on the left side of the building.
The front garden railings have spearhead finials and are set on a brick wall with stone coping. To the right, the wall and railings curve around towards the house and include an iron gate with iron gateposts topped with ball finials. This wall meets the front wall of the house and forms the boundary with Number 21. The left-hand garden wall is made of brick and adjoins the house. Numbers 1 to 22 Bootham Terrace represent a notably complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870, showcasing a variety of interesting designs.
