Description

Number 12 is a house built in 1865, located on Bootham Terrace in York. It is constructed of brick and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-bay façade. The first and second-floor windows are sash windows with segmental brick arches above them. On the ground floor, there is a timber canted bay window with a slate roof and a brick base, which includes sashes with moulded segmental heads that rise from pilasters. The brick base also contains basement windows, which are glazing bar sashes with segmental brick arches. To the right, there is a small sash window without glazing bars at both the cellar and ground-floor levels. The doorway, located on the right, features a surround with a shallow segmental arch above pilasters and a moulded cornice. The door itself has two panels of etched glass above two plain panels, and the overlight has a segmental head. The gutter is supported by shaped brackets, and the attic is illuminated by a small dormer. There are chimneys on both the left and right sides, shared with taller adjoining houses. The interior has not been inspected. The attached railings have spearhead finials and are set on low brick walls with stone copings. The gate is made of iron, with iron gateposts topped with ball finials. Numbers 1 to 22 Bootham Terrace represent an unusually complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870, showcasing a variety of interesting designs.
