Description
No. 28 and Edgehill are two houses, formerly a vicarage, situated high above the road in Minehead. They date from the late 18th century, with a mid-19th century extension. The buildings feature painted render over rubblestone and have plain tile roofs with brick stacks located at the sides, center, and rear. The layout is L-shaped and consists of two storeys with a four-window range.
The 18th-century vicarage on the right has a rectangular plan and a hipped roof, with stacks on the left, right, and rear. It has three large 19th-century three-light casement windows on both floors at the front. The right side has an 18th-century two-light leaded window on the first floor. The left side is now part of Edgehill, which includes a 20th-century lean-to porch at the far left, next to the projecting gable.
Edgehill, built in the 19th century, is taller and features stone coping and moulded kneelers on the forward-facing projecting gable. It has paired sash windows with small panes in the top sash and plate glass in the lower sash; one is located on the first floor and another in a splayed bay on the ground floor, also to the right of the left return. The interiors have not been inspected.
Additionally, there is a rubblestone retaining wall approximately 3 meters high and 50 meters long in front of the buildings, with the wall to Edgehill on the left being rendered and painted.
