Description
West Hill is a house and attached outbuilding dating from the late 18th century, with a remodel in 1849 as indicated by a datestone, and modernisation in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed rubble sandstone with tooled dressings and features a pantile roof with brick stacks, one of which has been rebuilt. The house has a central-staircase plan, is two rooms deep, and includes a service extension to the left.
The front of the house is two stories high with three windows, while the lower extension to the left is also two stories but has a single window. Further to the left is a one-and-a-half-story outbuilding. The central door of the house consists of six raised and fielded panels beneath a divided overlight. The ground floor has six-pane sash windows, and the first floor has four-pane sash windows, all with stone sills. The ground floor features heavy plain lintels, while the first floor has thinner timber lintels. There is a stepped eaves course and end stacks.
The extension has a 20th-century stable door with an unequal twelve-pane sash above, both of which are adorned with tooled lintels. The extension and outbuilding have coped gables and shaped kneelers. A datestone is set in the gable end of the outbuilding.
