Description

Ruston Lodge is a house dated 1847, with later 19th-century alterations and extensions. It was built for the Dawnay family. The house is constructed of dressed sandstone, with a pantile roof and rebuilt brick stacks. Originally designed with a central entrance and a depth of one and a half rooms, a parallel range and a rear wing were added later. The front facade is two storeys high with two windows. The original entrance has been blocked, and a new entrance is located in the right gable wall of the parallel range, beneath a pent roof. The windows are 16-pane sashes, with stone sills and chiselled lintels. A datestone above the former entrance is inscribed “MDL 1847”. The house has coped gables, shaped kneelers, and end stacks.
