Description

This listing describes a pair of two-storey houses located at 1 Market Place and 2A Northload Street, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some later alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick, painted on the front elevations, and feature pantile roofs with a double depth plan.

The façade of No. 2A Northload Street consists of two bays, showcasing a three-light timber casement window and a doorway with a 20th-century door on the ground floor, both set beneath a large timber lintel. The upper floor has a three-light casement window. No. 1 Market Place features a doorway with a 20th-century timber door on the ground floor and a single-light casement window above.

The interior of the buildings was not inspected in 2006. Both Nos. 1 Market Place and 2A Northload Street are considered good examples of modest dwellings from the late 18th or early 19th century. They hold significant group value with other listed buildings nearby, especially Nos. 1A and 2 Market Place, and they contribute strongly to the historic character of Glastonbury, which is a designated Conservation Area.
