Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at No. 5 Market Place on the north side, is a building dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of freestone and stands three storeys tall. The building features a moulded cornice and a blocking course, along with a band. The ground floor has been refaced in Bath stone and includes three sash windows with glazing bars. Above the ground floor, there is a dentilled cornice. The building also has an overall fascia and three modern windows in architrave surrounds to the left. To the right, there is a doorway with a reduced Gibbs surround. This bank is part of an important group of listed buildings that includes the Crown Hotel, Nos 2 to 11 on the north side, and Nos 2 to 12 on the south side, as well as the Market Cross and Nos 6 to 9 in the Market Place.
