Description
No 2 (Cooper and Tanner) is a Grade II listed building located on the south side of High Street, dating from the early 19th century. This two-storey structure features a three-window stucco front and is positioned at the corner of Market Place. The building has cornices and parapets, with the right-hand front being slightly curved. It includes a ground floor shop front supported by Tuscan pilasters. The left-hand front is slightly taller and originally had blind arcading of two bays on the ground floor, along with a corresponding arch leading to a yard. This section retains contemporary panelling on the doors and tympanum. The group of listed buildings from Nos 2 to 10 and No 12 on the south side, along with the Crown Hotel to No 11 on the north side, as well as the Market Cross and Nos 6 to 9 in Market Place, form an extremely important architectural ensemble.
