Description

No 6 on High Street is an 18th-century building that has been altered over time. It stands three storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick, featuring a moulded parapet coping that sweeps up to connect with No 8. There is a plain band above the third storey and chamfered quoins. The building has two windows with 19th-century sashes set in raised surrounds, each topped with curved pediments and keystones. The sills are projecting and supported by curved brackets. On the second floor to the right, there is a three-light window, while a small bay of three lights is located on the first floor to the right, with sashes that include some glazing bars. The 19th-century shop front has a moulded cornice supported by three floriated volutes, although a modern shop front has been added. To the left of the shop front, there is a six-panel door. This building is part of a significant group of listed buildings that includes Nos 2 to 10 and No 12 on the south side, as well as the Crown Hotel to No 11 on the north side, and the Market Cross along with Nos 6 to 9 in the Market Place.
