Description
The Washing Place, located 5 metres south of West Wells Cottage, is a historic washing place with an associated well or spring. Its exact date is uncertain, but it is believed to be ancient. The structure features a rubble wall surrounding an ashlar cistern made of Ham stone. The area is enclosed by a wall on three sides, measuring approximately 1.5 metres by 3 metres. Within this enclosure is the cistern, which has a stone lid and includes one lead and one iron spout that discharges into a stream.
