ILCHESTER CP HIGH STREET (East side) Milestone against south-west corner of the Town Hall
GV II
Milestone. Possibly C18. Ham stone, about 400mm wide and 100mm thick, one metre high, with triangular top. Incised lettering reads "MILES TO/LONDON 127/BRISTOL 35/BATH 33/WELLS 18/TAUNTON 24/YEOVIL 5". Possibly erected by the Ilchester Trust, founded 1753, as the starting point from which all the mileages on their toll roads were measured.
