Description
Town Hall House, located at No. 32 High Street, is a house from the early 19th century that has been modified. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with roughcast on the south gable. The roof is made of slate and plain clay tiles, set behind a plain parapet and between coped gables, and features brick chimney stacks. The building has three storeys and two bays. It includes a plinth and a rendered parapet. The two upper floors have 16-pane sash windows in plain openings, with dovetailed stone lintels above the first floor. The ground floor has later shallow-angled bay windows with 4+8+4 panes, covered by a continuous lean-to slate roof that also forms a central porch. The porch contains a six-panel door in a plain opening, with a shallow keystone above a flat arch, and a boarded door with a light set to the left. This house is integral with the adjoining Town Hall and may date from the remodeling of that building between 1812 and 1816.
