Description

This milestone, located on the Bristol-Bath Turnpike, dates from around 1823. It is made of sandstone and features a cast-iron plate. The milestone is set back in the hedgerow and is partly overgrown. It measures approximately 450 millimeters wide and 200 millimeters thick, with about 1 meter visible above ground, although it is partly buried. The plate has a curved head and is set flush with the stone, displaying the inscription "6 MILES TO BRISTOL." There is also a benchmark for 36 meters above sea level, although it is not visible.
