KEYNSHAM BATH ROAD (A4) (North side) Milestone at NGR ST 674 678

Milestone on Bristol-Bath Turnpike. Probably 1823. Sandstone with cast-iron plate. The stone lies back in the hedgerow, and is partly overgrown (May 1996). Approx 450mm wide and 200mm thick with 1m showing above ground, but partly buried. The plate with curved head is set flush, and is incised 6/ MILES/ TO/ BRISTOL. There is a benchmark (not visible) for 36m ASL.
