Description
Pixash Lane Bridge is a Grade II listed structure built from pennant stone, which is squared and coursed on the faces and soffit, with Bath stone ashlar voussoirs, a string course, buttresses, and copings. The bridge features a depressed, four-centred arch with a span of 30 feet (9 meters), characterized by stepped and chamfered voussoirs that end at the footings with chamfer stops. The voussoirs are finished with raised tooling and a plain margin.
The abutments have a low chamfered plinth, and the arch is flanked by buttresses, each featuring two offsets with an arris profile. The elevations on either side extend out as straight wing walls. A moulded string course with an arris runs the full width of the elevation, incorporating the line of the upper buttress offset and meeting the plain bands of the projecting end piers. The parapets have a very slight convex profile, with the eastern parapet (low mileage) showing some recent brick patching. The western parapet (high mileage) has been rebuilt using GWR red and purple engineering brick laid in English bond. Both parapets maintain a substantial step to the internal face, topped with a quarter-round profile, and feature original coping that is flush to the inside face and chamfered to an arris on the outer face.
