Description

The outbuildings located 80 metres southeast of the Court House are a 16th-century cattle byre that has been altered in the 18th century and is now used as a garden shed. The structure is built of blue lias random rubble and features a hipped roof that is thatched, except for the pantiles on the southeast and south corners. It has a rectangular plan and is one and a half storeys tall. The main feature is a shouldered flat-headed doorcase, which is pegged, located on the northwest front. There is an entrance to the attic on the left side at ground floor level, and evidence of a blocked door can be seen on the southeast front, along with a lancet opening. While the original purpose of the building is unclear, a random rubble trough on the northeast side indicates it was once a cattle byre. There is also a long single-storey addition made of random rubble on the southeast side, with a pantile weatherboarded gable end. This building is part of an interesting group of farm buildings that includes the tithe barn and is overlooked by the Court House and the Church of Saint Mary.
